The parents of students at Hira Public School, Cheppanam, Panangad organised a food festival on Children’s Day in the school to create awareness on healthy eating habits, nutritive requirements of children and food to be avoided for various health reasons. The parents prepared the food at home and also at stalls put up at the venue. “They took care not no add any artificial additives, colours, chemicals, materials like ajinomoto and preservatives. The food was sold in one hour to residents and others from the locality, at no-profit basis. Thus, not only students but also people from our locality were able to have a first-hand experience of healthy eating,” said P.N. Vijayan, principal. Thus, there were 10 puttu items, biriyani and other ethnic and regional food like kozhukatta, pathiri; three types of dosas, payasam, ada and kappa-fish curry combine. The nutritive value of the food items was exhibited alongside. A dietitian and a doctor helped arrange the programme. In the end, a troupe performed ethnic and folk songs

The on-stage performance of gymnastics, aerobics and kalari was the attraction of the annual day of Hira Public School, Panangad. The children displayed these skills with agility, grit and enthusiasm. The feats performed included diving through the fire ring, somersault and stick-exercises. Cultural items too were held. “These young children have the determination and physical strength.Even children who are not very academically motivated are exceptionally talented when it comes to these exercises. We nurture them here,” said P. N. Vijayan, Principal.
